Welcome to the WCA

The Washington Clay Arts Association was started to promote better communication among clay artists throughout the state. Membership is open to everyone interested in clay arts.

Six meetings are held each year with invited guest speakers and interesting programs. Socials are held in the summer and winter. Exhibits are planned for various locations around the state and are available to all members.

Get Involved

Liz Duarte has moved on to past president status as of the first of the year, so the president position is open. The board is busy planning the 2012 calendar year so that until we find a new leader the club will continue to do business as usual. We are also looking for a PR person- please see the job descriptions below and please contact Liz if you'd like to get involved!

President

1. Preside over elections

2. Lead board meetings

3. Provide strategic information that aligns all initiatives with the five year vision. Maintain focus avoiding details.

4. Organize focus groups.

5. Ensure that board meetings are strategically planned to give attention to association events.

6.Initiate a five year vision, year three milestones & year one tasks (with the board).

Shards and Other Bits

NCECA 101 or ABC...

Marge Levy spoke at our most recent WCA meeting and shared her personal perspectives on NCECA. While she and Wally are co-chairing the Seattle Host Committee, Marge told us she had been attending NCECA since 1970 (it was founded in 1966) and was on the board for 12 years and president of NCECA in the 1980s. She couldn't remember how many conferences she has attended but it might be 32.

She and Wally serve on the Board now and work with policy, conference programming, organizational advancement and such. Locally, for the conference, they have been in charge of dance music, publication design, logo design, honors and most of all, involving the community and engaging all artists, schools, museums, and galleries in mounting exhibitions concurrently with NCECA in March.

She had a lot of suggestions for us...A,B,C...etc:

Anticipate; since many exhibitions will open in January, February, and early March and be sure to see them in those months, and thus be able to spend time during NCECA going to programs and socializing and watching demos.

Be gracious and hospitable in March to our many visitors. We could have 5000. If you could offer a bed or clean dry floor and shower to artists coming in from out of town early to set up exhibitions, that would be great. Contact MYRA.Kaha@ncecaseattle.com.

College faculty and students used to be the majority of members at NCECA; now community artists are the majority and you will find others there with similar interests.

Dancing shoes are worthwhile for NCECA. Drinking practice helpful.

Eating at NCECA can be an issue. Do not try to meet people for meals or even eat well. Take apples and energy bars with you everywhere and eat on the go.

Friendship and fun is everywhere at NCECA. The best things happen when you are friendly and of good spirit...even waiting in lines or standing at great talks or on food lines.

Get sleep and do not party too much. Nights are fun but the days are chock full of demos, commercial booths, vendors, shows, tours.

Help NCECA by volunteering to help artists from out of town at the Seattle Design Center install shows their right before NCECA. Again, Myra will be taking names and arranging this.

Information, programs and details are on line well before the conference; look info up and plan YOUR conference time ahead so you do not miss anything you really want to see.

Join in a song and dance routine on the last presentation of the conference. Stay tuned and pay attention to forthcoming details as they are finalized. We will teach you what you need to know and it will be way simpler than dancing with the stars. Fun and Silly.

Keep on working in clay and Keep on enjoying the creative time you have with the mud.
